Social Security Disability Insured Information

To be eligible for DIB benefits, you must have worked a sufficient number of years and paid Social Security taxes on your income. The number of years you must have worked prior to your application varies depending on your age. The amount of benefits you are entitled to is based in part on the amount you earned while working. Eligibility for Supplemental Security Income Benefits

SSI benefits are for disabled individuals who are indigent. To be eligible for SSI benefits, you must meet the income and asset limitation guidelines of the program. The income and asset limitations vary based on the size of your family. SSI benefits are for individuals who either have not worked a sufficient number of years prior to their application to qualify for DIB benefits, such as individuals who stayed at home to care for their family, or for individuals whose earnings were very modest, such that the DIB benefits they are entitled to still places their monthly income below the income limitation guidelines of the program.
